Seriously, can it get any more summery than kids playing and running through the sprinkler?
When I was a kid and lived in Spokane, WA, we went to the drive-in movies quite a bit. I loved wearing my jammies, taking my pillow and sleeping bag, and getting to bring snacks along to watch whatever was showing on the big screen. Our parents let us bring friends along and it was kind of like a sleep over without really sleeping or spending the night at a friend’s house. More than likely, at least one of us kids would fall asleep before the movie ended or had a stomach ache because of eating too much junk food. It is one of my favorite childhood memories!
Being that it’s 2013 and the drive-in was replaced by these monstrous 3D megaplexes, it was really hard to find an actual working drive-in theater. But we found one! A little bit of a drive at 45 minutes and practically just opened (it’s only 3 months old!), but TOTALLY worth it! I’m so excited that my boys have now experienced the drive-in and I hope there are many more drive-in family dates to come!!
You know what I love? Carnivals. Now I don’t love how dirty it always feels or that the rides are so rickety that they feel like they are going to fall apart while you are on them and I don’t even like the newest fried “this” trend. What I do love is how nostalgic carnivals are and how they have weathered the test of time…I mean, carnivals have been doing their thing for well over a hundred years! I LOVE the cheesy games (where the odds are not in your favor); the colorful, flashing lights at night, the caliope music, the heckles from the “carnie” operators…seriously, I kind of feel like going to carnival today can’t be much different than it was 100 years ago!
And I’m so glad that we get to experience this nostalgia with the boys. We had such a great time at this tiny little carnival and Lawyer some how, some way managed to win a prize at the balloon dart game!
