Blake | Allen HS Senior

August 29, 2011

Here’s my last senior to blog until after my maternity leave!  I have to say that with all my seniors, I always feel that I am able to let their personality shine through but Blake brought that to whole new level!  Blake wanted to have more of a stylized session….we planned for WEEKS on the perfect location, the perfect props, etc.  It’s funny how the locations we planned on using completely were changed by just “going with the flow”.  The locations used were really a last minute decision and they couldn’t have been more perfect.

Personal | A Room for Jock

August 25, 2011

Well, this little guy is bound to be here in less than three weeks!  I’ve got just about everything accomplished that I wanted to get done around here, aside from a few loose ends to wrap up, but we are as ready as we will ever be for the arrival of Lawyer’s little brother, Jock!

I took some pics back in July of the nursery and wanted to share those…it came out just about as close to how I envisioned a nursery being for this boy (ripping up carpet, putting down hardwood floors and adding a brightly colored rug was apparently not an option with the husband)!  I got a LOT of my inspiration from other nurseries that I saw on websites, blogs, online stores, etc. so I thought I would do a post with pictures and then link to places that I purchased some of the items.  I know I found that SO helpful when others linked to their finds!

I still have some things I really want to do in here, like add a floor lamp or hanging lamp near the rocking chair; add some espresso-colored baskets to the Ikea shelf to break up the “clutter” and color; change out the knobs to something fun on the changing table; add a rug, etc.  But overall, it’s ready for a baby!

This little stuffed owl was the first piece I bought that I knew I wanted a room built around (color, quirkiness, etc.)…I didn’t want a particular theme at all but I wanted the room to feel cohesive.  So I settled on an eclectic room that combined a bit of modern and vintage/retro.  To me, the owl represents wisdom, knowledge, learning and also is quite the popular “symbol” for quirk and vintage.  I adored the colors, especially when combined with the espresso and knew that would be my color palette!

One “must have” that I really didn’t want to skimp on was a cozy rocker/glider that was also a recliner.  You can’t imagine how hard those are to come by, especially when you have a particular color you want it in AND a particular style.  This chair pretty much fit the bill and it will definitely be a place we cozy up to every day!

Sigh…this painting…my sweet son saw these owl stickers at this Granny’s and decided to paint a family portrait with us as the owls.  His baby brother is sitting on his head!

I really love this little (and two pieces make it REALLY little) vignette with the boxing gloves and picture above it.  That is my husband’s grandfather when he was into amateur boxing as a “kid”.  Oh and those ABC’s….those were NOT an option….I absolutely had to have those and knew those would be the centerpiece of the room!

Luckily the Ikea shelf and changing table are all leftovers from Lawyer’s room when he was just a wee tot…those were about the only things I have kept since Lawyer was a baby.  I wanted the Ikea shelf to be functional (I’m getting there…still need my baskets with “useful” things put in) but I also wanted it to display all the quirky things in the room.

A few glimpses of quirky items in the cubbies of the shelf…

While I do want a touch more color when you look at this wall, I kind of find it soothing in contrast to all the bright colors and “stuff” going on with the opposite wall.  That map?  Well, another “must have” item….we are quite fond of maps around here and I just loved the vintage charm of the school “chalkboard” map.  I fully plan on letting the kids color in each state we have visited or use it as a learning tool.

We have been going to the same beach for about 5 years now and it feels like a home away from home (without your own dirty house or “stuff” you need to do…ha!).  Here is a share from our beach vacation!  We really didn’t do much beyond hanging at the beach and it was so relaxing.  And we were so happy that my husband’s sister’s family joined us….Lawyer absolutely adores his sweet little cousin and they played well (for the most part) together!

And this kid couldn’t have been MORE excited to start school this morning!  He held my hand walking to school but when we had to wait outside for the doors to open, we let go of each other.  We started walking into the school through the halls and I asked if we could hold hands…he held it for a split second and then said “No, not right now”.  Oh well, I know who likes to cuddle up with me before bedtime anyway!

Lawyer, my prayer for you is that you learn a lot, listen well and be the leader that you are!  We love you!

Our Summer via Instagram

August 18, 2011

Whew!  I really can not believe that summer is officially coming to an end for us.  It’s been such a great summer and I’m so glad our family made so many wonderful memories.  I decided to document this summer from my iPhone Instagram app…just because I knew I would always have my iPhone handy!

Here is our summer in summary!

Super quiet on the Amii Wroblewski Photography homefront, I know.  This summer has seen RECORD heat (what did we hit….like 43 straight days of over 100 degrees?!?!) and with record belly proportions on me!

We have enjoyed a leisurely summer full of tons of memories, laughter and love before this sweet boy joins us in September.  So, it is obvious that I’m more or less on maternity leave until an unappointed date in October.

My maternity leave right now just entails not shooting in this ridiculous heat.  I’m still taking on consultations for those that just want more information on a senior session with me and then we are just booking late October.  Which, to give y’all insight, is a great time to shoot!  I shot several sessions late October last year and we were still in the 90’s!

And of course, I can’t just leave this post without a picture!  One taken of Lawyer and I last night at the lake…we are SO blessed to live so close to the lake and take a late evening dip if we so choose!

If you would like to book your senior consultation, email me at info@amiiwroblewski.com or call at 214-585-8491!  So long as this baby stays put until his mid-September debut, I will be accepting appointments for consultations!
