The crazy spring senior season is upon us! Lots of seniors have booked this week so I thought I would do another round of What to Wear. I have very specific guidelines I try to follow when it comes to styling your senior session because after having been around the block behind a camera a time or two, you start to see what works and what doesn’t.
Here are a few tips to keep in mind when choosing outfits for your senior session:
-Color! I know SO many of y’all want to do black and/or white but it is really hard to photography properly and for me, it acts more as camouflage than it does to showcase your beauty.
-Accessories! You can NEVER bring enough accessories to your senior session, it’s always best to bring too much than not enough. A single accessory can instantly transform an outfit. Necklaces, earrings, bracelets, rings, hair bands/flowers/bows, scarves, sunglasses…bring ‘em!
-Chic but Classic! I highly suggest choosing outfits that you know you will look back on in 20 years and still think it looks stylish and classic. With all the crazy, over-the-top trends out there, you don’t want to look like a bad case of Lady Gaga or Katy Perry when you are showing your own teenage kids your senior pictures. Classic silhouettes with trendy accessories are a great way to go!
-Textures and Details! Denim, leather, knit scarves, a fun hat, chunky beaded necklaces, fringe, ruffles….they all add to your outfit in a fun way they you can truly make your own.
I wasted away today in a land called Polyvore (if you have never checked it out, it’s pretty awesome to get ideas on outfits) and pulled together some really pretty spring outfits. These are just ideas to get the ball rolling!
Let’s start with me breaking one of my own “rules”….black clothing! I think if you really want to go with black, this is a great way to incorporate black into the outfit. I think the reason why I love this outfit so much is because it’s casual and the gold and pink accents are AWESOME against the black:
Military inspiration is everywhere and this is a great classic, casual outfit that I think blends “military” with “classic” perfectly. I like the rugged, urban feel to it and yet it’s still flow-y and feminine:
I am seeing a LOT of nude/pale pink everywhere and this is a great outfit to showcase it. Nudes are hard to pull off mainly because they can come across as boring but if you have details like the ruffled sleeves and then a nude snake skin pump, it will really shine:
And here’s another pretty “nude” color inspiration:
One of my FAVE colors (although I guess it might not technically be a color) is grey. It is the BEST backdrop for other bold colors that might look too gaudy on their own. Right now, LOTS of corals, sunny yellows and pale pinks are popping up against the gray. Here’s a coral/grey inspired outfit:
And a sunny yellow/grey inspired outfit:
And finally a pale pink/grey inspired outfit:
Florals are HUGE….as they were last year and I’m surprised that they have hung around as long as they have. I will say that florals are hard to wear but if you can find a floral pattern that works, it will look stunning (and not like your great-grandma’s curtains). I really love the simple floral skirt with the light tank and accessories like the following three outfits:
But if you want a little something more, something like this 50’s inspired, grey/coral number is GORGEOUS:
I think one of my fave “trends” is the nautical look. It’s kind of yuppy, 80’s, Hamptons without being kelly green/bright pink. I think this is a great modern twist on the classic navy/white sailor stripes:
Okay this was a HUGE overshare but there were just so many awesome outfits out there that I thought would be great inspiration! Have a GREAT, sunny weekend!
